The 55th Annual Conference of the Particle Therapy Cooperative Group (PTCOG 55) held during 23 – 28 May 2016 and with more than 1200 delegates, confirmed that particle therapy is gaining ground all over the world. Growing number of proton centers and patients undergoing the treatment contributes substantially to both the improvements in the clinical experience and the public awareness.
The Particle Therapy Co-Operative Group (PTCOG), founded in 1985, is a non-profit worldwide organization uniting both scientists and professionals interested in proton, light ion and heavy charged particle radiotherapy. The ultimate goal of the PTCOG is to improve cancer treatment so that it meets the highest possible standards in radiation therapy.
The local organising institution, the Proton Therapy Center (PTC) in Prague is the only centre of this kind in the Central and Eastern Europe. The PTCOG 55 delegates thus had the unique opportunity to visit the Prague Centre and meet with its leading experts.
